Other Info: At the Front. He has been awarded the Military Medal for most conspicuous gallantry and good leading in the Battle of Ypres on July 31st and August 1st and 2nd. He rendered valuable assistance in organising ammunition, water and ration parties, and bringing them up a road heavily sniped by the enemy. He made five journeys for this purpose and succeeded in getting rations, etc, to his Company. He has since been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

William John Foord

Other Info: Mr Foord was the skipper of the steam trawler ‘Margaret’ which foundered (she struck a mine) in the Channel on 18th December 1916. and he and five of the hands on board went down with the ship. He left a wife and six children, all shown in the group. Mrs Foord is the daughter of Mr Berry, a well-known fisherman of 38 All Saints Street, Hastings.

According to CWGC, William died aged 40 on 17th December 1916. He is remembered at Tower Hill Memorial.
