According to CWGC, Herbert died aged 23 and is remembered at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, grave reference VI.J.2A.

Herbert Thomas Roberts was born in about 1895 in St Leonards on Sea. In the 1911 census the family was at 8 East Ascent, St Leonards, father a school porter at a private school, born St Leonards. He and his wife Annie Maria, born Sheerness, Kent, had had three children of which two were alive. Besides Herbert, who was a 16 year-old printer's apprentice, there was his 10 year old sister Florence May.
In the 1901 census the family were at 27 Alfred Street, father a school porter. This, and Alfred Street and King's Road, are a few streets apart. He had married, 1894, Hastings, Annie Maria Hicks.
The Hastings and St Leonards Observer, 29 June 1918, contains the same photo as depicted and adds that he is the only son.
There is another Thomas Herbert Roberts who attested for the Army on the 15 April 1915 and joined the East Kent Regiment.
