Walter Leslie was born in Bentley, Hampshire. He married Amelia Mary Bennett in 1904 in Southwark district, Surrey.
They were in Sheerness, Kent, in the 1911 census. He was a sluice opener for a water supply company. Amelia was age 43, born London. They had had one daughter, Hilda Mabel, born locally.
