• I am searching for any photos or war records relating to my great grandfather Alec Putland. I have been bequeathed some of his medals and a few original hand written documents and would like to assemble as much information as possible to share with my family and future generations.

• Many thanks Kieron, it is a good starting point for me and the timing perfect. I am visiting my late mothers two remaining siblings in the Uk ( both well into their 80’s) and this photo may help them to recall some faded memories of him. I am based in Australia and trying to gather as much information as I can before returning to Aus in early December.

  That would be great….thank you! I have accumulated some very old family photos that I would be more than happy to share with you. Although I have not managed to put names to many of the faces at this stage, they may prove useful in your own search. Alec’s son, also named Alec (but known as Tom), was my grandfather on mums side. He was a very brave man who followed in his fathers footsteps in the Second World War. He fought all over Europe and was one of the lucky ones that was rescued from the beaches of Dunkirk, he was also one of the troupes present in Burlin when the war finally ended. He died when I was in my early twenties and I have many fond memories of him.
