In the 1921 census, the couple were in three rooms at 22 Horntye Road. Henry Ernest was 25, a process engraver for F.J. Parsons at 12 Claremont. Evelyn Jessie was also 25, and there was a son, Douglas. All were born in St Leonards. The Mitchells were still next door at no. 23, father a bath chair proprietor in St Leonards.
Despite the Congregational wedding, Henry was baptised in 1896 at S Leonards parish church, his father a platelayer of Harold House, Harold Mews.
He had enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery on the 26 February 1916, service number 71578, and was discharged because of sickness 12 August 1916. He appears to have served in the Army both before and after those dates.
Their son Alan John Crouch was killed in 1944 as a flying officer in the RAF.
Henry Ernest died on the 9 September 1969 at 18 Aldborough Road.
