W C Dann
Rank: Lance Corporal
Regiment: Army Service Corps
Address: Hastings
Other Info: The text reads: This photograph was taken at Salonika. It shows Sergeant J H Paynton and Lance Corporal W C Dann of the A.S.C. They met in Greece quite unexpectedly. Both were prominent members of the Hastings Parliament before war broke out, Sergeant Paynton being a vigorous champion of working men’s rights, and Lance Corporal Dann a Unionist whip. Other old Parliamentarians in Hastings will wish them good luck and a safe return to their native land.

Hello
We believe the newspaper has the name wrong. Thats Joseph Henry Poynton, my great grandfather. A member of the Hastings Parliament pre WW1 and an active socialist. Too much of a chance to be another. Quite a surprise as we had never seen a photo in uniform before.
Regards
Andy
Hi Andy, thank you for commenting. I created two posts for this image, one for W C Dann and another for J H Paynton (as spelt on the article). I have updated the record for Joseph which can be seen here: http://www.ww1rollofhonour.co.uk/index.php/2017/03/poynton-joseph-henry/. Kind Regards, Kieron
