H.Barham is another of my Dad’s relatives who served in this War. I don’t have much memory of him but do recollect from family conversations when I was young he was possibly called Harry I will check with my Dad for more information.
Dear Mr Mitchell
Do pardon my intrusion. It is quite some time since you left a message on this website. I don’t know whether you are still interested in H Barham. I think he was the brother of my grandfather Edward Charles Barham. I didn’t know of H Barham until I came across him on this Roll of Honour when I was looking for information about another brother William Eli who was killed while serving in the Coldstream Guards in August 1914. I didn’t know about either brother as my grandfather never spoke of them. I did know that my granddad was vehemently opposed to war of any sort and was extremely upset when my father joined the Territorial Army in 1938. To lose two brothers in the First War would certainly explain it.
My father died over 10 years ago so I cannot ask him for any further information and have very little information myself about the Barham family. I am now 73, retired and living for the moment in High Wycombe in Bucks. If there is any more you can tell me about H Barham and your father’s relationship with the Barham family, I would be very interested to learn about it. Again, I apologise for suddenly contacting you out of the blue.
Best wishes
Kevin Barham
Hello. Kevin. In recent years I've been researching my Family Tree and I was told by members of my family that the Barham family were very large. This I discovered for myself. My Paternal Grandmother was Kathleen Barham and was the youngest of the 9 Children of Edward and Maud (Evelyn) Barham You are correct about William Eli Burt Barham being killed in action in 1914 and I have information on him too. Ok moving on to Harry Barham. His full name was Harry Ottoway Barham and I believe he was the second eldest Brother after William. He survived WW1 and went on to raise a family. Co incidentally one of his sons who I think and can check was also called Harry died in service in WW2 a Flight Sargent in the RAF. In addition there is another member of this branch of the Barham Family who gave his life in service to the defence of this Country. He was Sidney Cyril Barham and I believe was the youngest Brother of the family and he was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers and died of his injuries sustained in action on Jan 1st 1945. I will check on my Ancestry account but he was 37 and married to a lady called Anne Sidney Cyril in in the War Graves Commission but I haven't yet found Harry Barham Junior who it works out is my Father's Cousin so is it possible that this Harry Barham is the one connected to your family. I can give you a contact number or email as there is so much to tell and it's difficult to cram it all in this message. Let me know of you want to do this
