Other Info: Gun Layer, First Class. With the First Battle Squadron in the North Sea. According to the ships log, George Stroud was lost overboard at 2.27am on 7th November 1915 when the ship was hit by two large waves due to it travelling too fast for the conditions. The waves smashed the bridge and chart room and wrecked the conning tower. Large quantities of water flooded the fore turret and decks below. Also swept overboard was Commander George Russell Nixon. Two other men were killed and fourteen injured in the same incident. George is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
